Transforming in Sacred Space

The second week of A Summer of Sacred Space led us through three more chapters of a little book of encouragement titled: Sacred Space.

Chapter 12: Jesus was Praying for Me, Too
John 17:11-19
In these verses, Jesus prays for His disciples, the ones who followed Him in ministry on earth and those who will believe in Him through their message: us!
He asks His Father to protect and guard them in the same way the Father protected Him, all the way through His life. From conception to crucifixion and resurrection. The call to be in the world but not of the world requires sanctification — transformation — through the truth of His Word.
We are protected eternally for our good and God’s glory as we learn to walk through this dark world while living in God’s Kingdom. We find ourselves protected by the Almighty Good Loving Worker of Miracles because we are no longer subject to the world’s realm of sin and death.

Chapter 52: The Reality about Suffering
Luke 6:20-26
In Luke’s version of the Beatitudes Jesus explains, blessed are the poor, the hungry, those who weep and are persecuted. Transformation is required for hearts to embrace suffering as blessing. Looking through the lens of transformation, we have the opportunity to adopt a posture before God that relates to this picture.
Blessed are the poor. Those who understand who God is and their identity in Christ. This is a posture of humility. One that flows out of a grateful heart.
Blessed are the hungry. The ones who desire to grow and become teachable.
Blessed are those who weep. They mourn over their own sin and the sin of the world. They fall-at-His-feet in a posture of repentance.
Blessed are the persecuted. For in the persecution of Jesus they received grace, and courageously offer grace to others.
Humble, teachable, repentant, grace-filled… these are the postures of a transformed heart.

Chapter 33: Jesus Calls Me as I Am
Matthew 4:18-22
Here we read about the calling of the first four disciples. Two sets of brothers who made their living as fishermen. Jesus called them just as they were, He called them from their nets used to catch fish so He could make them fishers of men.
Jesus’s call on our lives come to us as we are, but He invites us into a transformation process. He moves us from an earth-bound pursuit to a heaven-bound pursuit. A work for temporal earnings to one of eternal treasures.

The heart behind seeking and maintaining sacred space in your life is to give Jesus room and permission to transform your life. your heart. your mind.

Consider asking Him:

What was I when You called me?

Once He answers, ask:

What will You make me?

When He calls, don’t hesitate. Follow Him into a life of transformation.
