Welcoming in Sacred Space

Our first gathering of A Summer of Sacred Space led us through three chapters of Sacred Space: A Little Book of Encouragement.

Chapter 38: Difficult Decisions and the Need for God’s Prompting
Matthew 1:18-24
Through the story of Joseph discovering his wife-to-be was pregnant with another’s child, we discovered a message of hope. God is in the midst of our difficult circumstances, each conceived by our Sovereign God to reveal Himself in our lives and to those in our world.
He invites us into His work, which from the world’s perspective almost always shows up as trouble. God welcomes us to work with Him in bringing light into a dark world.

Chapter 18: How Can I Share My Resources?
Luke 9:11-17
In the feeding of the 5,000, we learned not to judge what God gives us as too little. We are called to share our resources by first bringing them to Jesus and letting Him bless it for His use. With His blessing we are freed from the fear of not enough and emboldened to welcome others, sharing whatever He has provided.
No matter how much or how little, we commit it to Him to do with it exactly what it was created to do: Bring Him glory!

Chapter 45: Jesus Encouraged Mary — and Martha too.
Luke 10:38-42
In the story of Martha and Mary, we saw how Martha’s gift of hospitality welcomed Jesus into her home and made it possible for Mary to sit at His feet. Yes, Martha got distracted, but Jesus gave a gentle rebuke to turn her heart toward what was important.
Martha and Mary form a picture of our spiritual journey. We welcome Jesus into our lives but we don’t always know how to entertain Him. We have to learn to first sit at His feet, listen, and then serve as He calls us to. The truth is, all He wants is you.

Through these three stories we saw how our own judgments and personal sensibilities can cause us to miss God’s invitation to come alongside Him in bringing His light into the world.
We are called to welcome Him in whatever circumstance He calls us, bring to Him whatever He’s given us, and prepare our hearts to welcome others into His Kingdom.

Next week’s chapters:
12, 52, 33

We invite you to join us on our journey of making sacred space for Jesus in our lives. Every week of study stands alone and books are available in our shop.

May the Lord bless you with His presence
and call you deeper into relationship with Him.
